Jose B. Flaminiano is recognized as one of the leading criminal trial lawyers in the Philippines. The extent of his experience in prosecuting and defending high profile criminal cases is unparalleled.
He was a defense counsel of President Joseph Ejercito Estrada in the impeachment trial before the Philippine Senate and in the criminal proceedings before the Sandiganbayan. He has also been engaged as counsel of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
Before returning to private practice in 1987, he served in government as State Prosecutor of the Department of Justice, City Prosecutor of Pasay City, and City Prosecutor of Manila. Aside from handling the prosecution of prominent criminal cases, he initiated a program of continuing legal education to improve the prosecution service. In 1983, he was chosen Outstanding Prosecutor of the Philippines by the Integrated Bar of the Philippines.
He has conducted lectures on topics such as investigation, evidence gathering, trial technique, arrest, search and seizure, and effective prosecution of cases before various bar groups and law enforcement agencies.
He is currently a member of the Supreme Court’s Sub-Committee on the Revision of the Rules of Criminal Procedure.
